The chairperson accused is Firidah Muwanga of Mpuunge sub county found in Mukono district who is said to have approved mining of sand in public road without district approve.
This forced the district chairman Andrew Ssenyonga to intervene to save the situation after sand miners had already destroyed the district road.
According to Firidah says that she decided to approve sand mining through district road in order to get money to construct Sub County headquarter.
Its alleged that Muwanga decided went into with a man identified as Charles Mutumba and they started mining sand which reached to the extent of destroying the only district road reaching to Mpunge Sub county.
The greedy leaders decided to divert a public road into another direction and they started mining sand in the public road plus destroying a old woman’s house.
Its alleged that every lorry that comes out full of sand Muwanga collects about 3000-5000 for her personnel use because they don’t have receipt for proper accountability.
The residents who have land in which the road was diverted are demanding to be compensated because they didn’t agree with sub county leadership.
According to Firidah Muwanga says that they decided to destroy the district road with sand mining so that they can get money to construct sub county community hall.
However Mukono district chairman Andrew Ssenyonga says that sub county leadership have no mandate of diverting a district road without their approvals.
He asks who will maintain the extended kilometers of road and that as sub county leadership have no any written agreement with those people who destroyed a public road.
Ssenyonga explains that up to now the sub county community isn’t under construction as its alleged to be an exchange for destruction of public road.
This forced Ssenyonga to invade Mpunge and arrested some people who were found mining sand in what used to be a public road.
