Mukono District Council has resolved to arresting of all players in Mpunge illegal sand mining which has been going on for a period now close to 5 years.
In a council meeting held today at the district headquarters to pass the district budget for financial year 2017/18 of 37 billion, the committee which was assigned on the 28th day of March this year to go on the ground and investigate into the matter which had turned bloody and destructive.
Sand mining has endangered the public road which has caused the diversion of the road in fear of people’s lives has delivered its findings but pinning some district leaders names remain anonymous for investigation purposes of asking for bribe and mediating between the illegal miners.
The district council has decided that police, office of the IGG, RDC’s office and district leadership must coordinate to arrest the person giving out contracts in the names of Eng. Charles Mutumba who will later under legal prosecution name his bosses in the district’s chain of leadership and have his land title revoked.
This has been explained to us by the District Speaker Emmanuel Mbonnye.
However, the District Chairman Andrew Ssenyonga Luzindana has blamed the existence of illegal mining on leaders in the district who gave out a public land title to an individual hence causing all the controversy.
