There was chaos at Nsazi police post when residents stormed the post, demolished it after two officers beat a suspected thief to death.
This happened on Sunday when Innocent Token a police officer and Andrew Kayira a crime preventer all belonging to Nsazi police beat Stephen Bamunankole to death in police cells suspecting him to have stolen a phone.
An eye witnesses said the two officers undressed and beat the deceased for three hours in the police cells until he had his last breath as they could not listen to him to explain.
“A complainant identified as Magret Nalwanda came at police yesterday after lunch and reported a theft case pinning the deceased to have stolen her phone worth shs. 50, 000,” an eye witnesses said.
The two officers Token and Kayira went to arrest him from his home, dragged him to police and beat him from 3:00pm -5:00pm until he died.
After killing him Kayira took off and Token released all the suspects who were already in cells and also abandoned the body and took off with two guns.
Police officers in Mukono said the two guns were later recovered in a bush near Nsazi.
It is also alleged that the OC in charge of Nsazi police post is under arrest and body still in police cells as the accused are on the run.
However furious residents stormed the post and destroyed it accusing it’s officers for killing their resident.
The Kampala metropolitan PRO Luke Oweyesigirye has comfirmed the death of the suspect but said it was Mob justice.
“what I can confirm now is that it was Mob justice and the Two officers had just gone to rescue the deceased at scene of crime unfortunately he died at police,” Mr. Osweyesigirye said.
