Mukono taxi drivers and conductors have vowed to fight Mukono resident district commissioner Rtd. Maj. David Matovu who has abolished their stages in Wantoni trading center.
In a security meeting held at Mukono district headquarters between district officials, taxi operators and police RDC Matovu directed police to impound taxis who passengers along Katosi and Jinja highway which taxi operators rejected.
This has been the situation in a security meeting held between Mukono security team led by RDC David Matovu and taxi operators when they shouted at him in a way of opposing his directive of vacating Wantoni taxi park.
In a meeting Matovu said that these taxi operators who operate in this area are security threat because they always fight each other which has caused great injuries and damage to properties.
He informed them that the only way to solve such wrangles is to abolish all stages found in this area of Wantoni and directed them to go back to main taxi park.
Mukono district chairman Andrew Ssenyonga who was also in a meeting opposed RDC directive and asked taxi operators not to obey it.
Ssenyonga explains that banning these parks will not solve anything saying that majority of them do have families that they take care of and others are looking for school fees for their children.
After Ssenyong’s comment taxi operators vowed to die with RDC Matovu and police if they attempt to evict them from areas that they operating from.
Taxi operators say that the park which RDC is sending them to operate from very soon is going to be demolished to pave way for expansion of Kayunga and Kampala-Jinja highway.
