Resideners of Kituba Canan Site, Kisowera, Mpoma, Lukojjo in Nama sub county Mukono District have come out to oppose the Atomic energy council plans of setting up a storage facility and a research centre of Atomic energy in a residential area.
These residents shot bitter word to their area councillor Sylvia Kyowa Kyobe whom they accuse of betraying them when she tried to convince them to accept the project.
The Atomic Energy Council revealed its plans of setting up an atomic facility in this area claiming to already have bought land totaling to 11 acres which residents oppose saying the said area is purely residential and there is no way such a deadly project can be established there.
State minister for Water who is also area Member of Parliament Ronald Kibuule in a meeting with the residents at Kiswa Primary School, urged government to relocate the Atomic project to a less populated area like Nakasongola instead of putting it in Mukono.
Kibuule said that he does not sabotage government programs but cannot allow this to be set up at the expense of human life
However the Chief Executive Officer, Atomic Energy, Noah Derogations Luwalira said that the project has been designed on international standards and will not harm any being.
