State Minister for Higher Education Hon. J.C. Muyingo has expressed fear over the increasing number of AIDS among adolescent girls aged 15 -24.
According to the recent statistics Muyingo says that about 570 girls each week get infected with HIV/AIDS in Uganda.
According to statistics this age group is either in Secondary schools or higher institutions of learning which is a threat to the Country population since Uganda is ranked second next to South Africa as far as AIDS spread is concerned in Africa.
This has been in a document carried by The Gender Technical Advisor in Ministry of Education Angela Nakafero who represented him as the guest of honor on the launch of SAGE-DREAMS Project aiming at empowering the girl child at Kojja Secondary School in Mukono.
The Country Director for World Vision Uganda Gilbert Kamanga has advised parents to help children in their communities stay in schools especially a girl child.
He reveals in the SAGE-DREAMS Project they aim at creating a friendly environment to a girl child, reducing new HIV infections targeting 45,000 girls in 130 schools in ten districts in a period of two years.
The DEO Mukono district Vincent Baraza has urged government, World Vision among other development partners to stop abandoning the boy child too in projects of this kind saying they’re key player in causing school drop outs of girl child.
Baraza urge that boys when they’re neglected, they hunt for school girls and young ones causing chaos in the world thus calling for collective responsibility.
