Residents of Kigugo landing site in Buikwe district are seized by fear after the murder of one person and the disappearance of another due to the escalating land conflict between the community and the State Minister for water Ronald Kibuule.
The incidences happened after the suing of the State Minister for water Hon. Ronald Kibuule and the heavy deployment of troops in the area where the minister claims ownership of 85 acres land and demands vacation of all settlers.
Residents sued the minister and one Musa Kateregga in Jjinja court challenging them for trying to evict them without giving them chance to buy the land or compensate them reasonable sums of money.
Farouk Ssennabulya who has been instrumental in defending fellow residents against unlawful eviction disappeared on Wednesday soon after the murder, and burial of another defender Dickson Wasswa on Tuesday who was critically beaten by Kibule’s soldiers and rushed to Mulago hospital where he died of Kidney failure.
Nasali Sanyu wife to the deseases Waswa cried out to the IGP to come and save them from the police men that killed his husband who may end up killing other people, she added that her husband left her with 12 children and he was the one paying school fees for them so now she doesn’t know what’s next.
The LC1 of Kigaya confirmed the disappearance of Sennabulya since the burial of his friend Waswa.
Residents refused to report the disappearance case at police claiming its works under the influence of minister Kibule.
Residents have also started defending themselves by setting fire on houses of those people are believed to be agents of Kibuule on the village.
The first person to suffer is Musa Kateregga who is believed to have sold this land to Kibuule his house has been set on fire and properties destroyed.
However Hon Kibule denied accusations that his body guards deployed at Kigaya Landing site in Buikwe district beat residents of this area which resulted into death of one resident Wasswa Dickson while at Mulago hospital.
Kibuule says guards at the landing site are not executing his duties rather a government arrangement to curb the increasing number of crime cited at the landing site including smuggling, abuse of environment among others.
