Uganda police force arrests and beat up journalists who were commemorating World Press Freedom day in Kampala.
This happened to journalists who refused to attend celebrations of press freedom in which government officials led by minister Frank Tumwebaze was a chief guest
Those who have been arrested include Ronald Bukenya, Issa Kigongo, Daniel Mukisa Bukenya, Jonan Atusigwire among others were arrested around Grand Imperial hotel while heading to Sheraton hotel to celebrate their World Press Freedom Day.
Trouble started when a big section of journalists refused to attend a function organized by UJA president Robert Kagolo whom they accuse and his guests of not minding about the media problems.
Its alleged that when Kagolo noticed that majority of journalists had abandoned his celebration which had ministers on it he decided to use police to terrorize them.
This forced media fraternity to storm Kampala central police station and demanded the release of arrested journalists without opening up any charges on them.
Journalists vowed to fight and rectify UJA leadership which they say is under the influence of government tom abandon the polite of media industry.
However while at railway grounds minister Frank Tumwebaze said that every government organ or individual who violets media freedom should account by himself or herself.
